Well, I don't actually "plan my savings" as I am fortunate enough to make significantly more than I spend.

When I was a working stiff in the corporate world I took advantage of our company's 401k plan which allowed me to take 10% of my income, pre-tax into the 401k, and they matched 6%.

That was pretty nice.
