Default How much do you set aside each month

How much do you try and set aside each month for savings? I'm happily single so I don't need to save for any kids to go to college.

Right now I try saving anywheres from $30-$50 a month, really adds up afterawhile and isn't hard to do when you set up a budget. Feels great having a little savings to put towards something in a few years.

Well, I don't actually "plan my savings" as I am fortunate enough to make significantly more than I spend.

When I was a working stiff in the corporate world I took advantage of our company's 401k plan which allowed me to take 10% of my income, pre-tax into the 401k, and they matched 6%.

That was pretty nice.

Ah lucky you. I have it where, I hae 16% federal income tax taken out, opposed to the bare minimum, so I have a fair income tax return come january, plus my savings.

that sounds awesome, very smart in your shoes to invest 10%, unfortunately we don't have that benefit.

I try and put away somewhere in the region of £100 a month (couple of hundred bucks, say), which goes straight into a high interest savings account. I've not got enough to retire on yet, but it does feel good to put some aside to put towards decorating or furnishing our next house or perhaps even paying for the next holiday.

We don't earn much more than goes out on bills and everyday living, though we try and be careful with what we spend though it's good to splash out a little now and again.

Touchwood when I've done my IT courses I'll be in a position to earn a bit more and we can start seriously looking towards the future.

Ah thats good, high interest savings is playing it smart.

I'm mad at myself for just bidding on a website, its going to take this month's savings right off the bat, I hate temptation. Oh well, maybe I'll make out in the long run.

I actually retracted my bid for now, I may put it into the savings as orginally planned. The site wasn't unique as I expected.

I used to save quite a lot when I was living with my parents, but since moving into my own place, it has been very hard to make ends meet never mind start saving for the future. Hopefully that will all change now as me and my fiance are both going to be working and earning a wage. We should start getting out of the red and back into the green.

My advice for trying to save would be to plan your finances, keep a record of everything you spend. Therefore you should be able to keep ontop of your outgoings and not forget about any important bills and such that have to be paid. Then hopefully the savings can start going up.
