Default Saving For College

Do you have a savings plan for your children's education? How much do you put away each month?

I am just starting out with this and so need some help! How much should I be aiming to have set aside by the time she graduates?

You are a pretty ambitious mom, that is for sure.

My daughter put herself thru college and grad school, with very little assistance from me. I did support my son when he went to the fire academy, but I think I will let him foot the bill for the police academy.

If you think that you have the money to do so, then just with what you can afford to put away each month. Then have them save as well. This will help everyone when college time comes around.

I don't. Every month is a struggle. But I put MYSELF through college, and I know how very, very hard it was at times, and I know that my grades suffered because I was working when I should have been studying. If I can somehow have a little set aside to ease the burden for her when the time comes, I would love to be able to.

I haven't had enough money to save for my child's college. I just got done putting myself through. I was lucky with nursing that my employer picked up the tab for books and tuition. I am going to encourage my child to pay for their own college though I will offer as much financial support as I can while they are attending.

And programs such as you took, with your employer helping to pay are increasingly common. If I could help my child get through a lower level schooling-say LPN school so that she can get a job, I am confident that somehow she will make it through RN school with an employer. I don't have dreams of getting her through to PHD myself, but I'd like to get her started on the right track.

As of now I really dont have a very good income. I am doing just a few courses in computer programming and sideby sides doing online jobs. So currently I am making my both ends meet. But my girlfriend is in habit of saving some hundreds a month for future uses which included for children too.
