Default V10 better than v12

I have seen this sort of misnomer that always v12 is better than v10 in terms of power and horsepower. But in many cars I have seen that v10 is putting up equal horsepower as compared to v12. Is there any relation between number of cylinders and power?

I think it would depend on the size of the cylanders.

No substitute for cubic inches.

Actually I have seen that even American cars with a lot of cubic cc of engine volume have lesser power than the Europian counter parts. So what all matters according to me is refinement and tuning of engine. ECU, curb weight and engineering involved in the designing of engine plays important role in the power a car produces.
