My two year old has a cold, from a playmate we were with a few days ago. I didn't get to eat today till almost 10pm because she can't eat-she throws up any solids that she eats. My day is completely hers. I don't mind that; that's a mother's job. But I would like some tips if you have any as to how to not go insane between her constant whining and clinging and my lack of sleep. She's waking coughing every half hour or so, so I am getting tetchy after two sleepless nights-by sleepless I mean 6 hours very interrupted in two days. Entertainment ideas?

Is she a TV watcher at all? Or DVDs? You could try to distract her with that. Sick kids are NOT fun. I had a sick granddaughter visiting, but her flu bug was only the 24 hour kind and so she was fine most of the visit. And she slept for 14 hours one night because she was so wrung out by it.

I really try to avoid TV as much as I can in truth. She turns into this little zombie when it's on and I hate that it does that to her, so I keep it off unless I am desperate to be able to get something done. Thanks for the idea though. We are through it now for the most part.

For me, it is relatively easy. Since sick children need lots of rest and sleep for their body to heal. I will take a little extra time and rub the head or read stories to help him sleep. or at least when he was younger that is what I did and it worked. Now I have no problem with it.

With some kids it can be a chore to care for them when they are sick as they are clingy and want you to be right there. Sometimes you can just explain to them you will only be gone a couple of minutes and then will come and check on them a lot and they may be ok with it.

In my daughter's case, sleep wasn't happening and this is the case most of the time when she gets sick. I do not know why this happens, but she also will not stay in bed. She has to be by my side constantly, and clearly I cannot spend the whole day in bed.
