| I've just got a job as a cook at a small restaurant where I used to work. The hours aren't great nor is the pay, but I am looking forward to getting back into the kitchen. I do a lot of web work on the side and as a hobby, though still aren't sure whether or not I want to persue it as a full-time career once I've finished my Open University Degree in IT and Computing. Anyone else aspiring to be a chef or am I the only one almost stupid enough to want to work full time in a kitchen? ![]() |

| When I was younger . . . and married . . . I used to dream of opening a breakfast only restaurant in the mountains, like at Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear. Now that I am older, I don't think getting up that early in the morning sounds very appetizing. No pun intended. I am a world renowned barbecuist though. |

| I'm not a good cook by any means, actually i'm a full time local truck driver that eats junk food everyday. Last year when I was taking a couple college classes, one of my peers, 26 yrs old, was a cook for a few years making more money then I make right now, but pulled alot of crappy hours during the summer (I believe it was Ruby Tuesday's he worked for). Unfortunately, he wanted to change careers which was why he was at college. You can make out well being a chef, if you live at the right place. Some of those 5 star restaurants up in New York would be great for a cooking career. If you know your stuff, your on your way up the ladder! |

| A good head chef can certainly pull a good wage - it's still hard work and long hours, though, and it takes years of dedication and experience to be in a position to take on a head chef's job in a busy restaurant. That doesn't sound like a bad dream Lloyd, though unfortunately I'm a strictly night-only person. I might just about manage brunch instead ![]() |

| I really couldn't imagine myself in a kitchen or even working in a restaurant full stop. After watching a number of television programmes based around the idea of running a restaurant, I have been completely put off! I may work best around people but give me work as a shop assistant anyday. The pay might not be as good but at least you don't have the clearing up to do! |

| I was a pub cook in two different pubs-one Irish and one English. All I can say is good luck! I hated the job. Too much stress, too low a pay scale and too much grief. I can't cook at the speed that they want-so even though I am a very good cook, I am always stressed to breaking point to get the food out as fast as they want. |
