Default Food For A Picky Toddler

My toddler is a tough one to feed. She won't eat fruit or meat, only vegetables, cheese or potatoes. If I can somehow hide the meat in the potato she will eat it, but not if the texture is changed much.

Any suggestions on foods that she might try?

I found that if they get hungry enough they seem to be more open to foods they may not have wanted earlier.

Default Tofu?

Has she tried tofu? My daughter has a sensory-processing disorder that causes her to have a strong aversion to many tastes and textures, and she has always been alright with tofu. I buy the extra-firm variety, cut it into cubes and stir-fry it. Tofu is very versatile, takes on other flavours nicely, and I have found it to be both easier to prepare and generally less expensive than meat. I also use a lot of Yves veggie ground round. My daughter prefers the texture over real hamburger. Remember, too that many young children need to be offered a food 8-10 times before they will even try it, so don't give up. Kids are also usually more likely to eat something if they've had a hand in preparing it.

My daughter is similar, but she will eat turkey. Not if it is dry-has to be good and moist, and having a sauce on it helps. Cut up small is good.

She also LOVES chinese spare ribs. I guess it's finger type food-she can pick it up and munch on it like that. BBQ ribs work too when tender.

I remember when I was a kid I did not like shell fish or fish of any kind. They grow out of it.

I just read a tip in a parenting magazine the other day about using rainbow colored sprinkles to kind of liven up foods that may encourage your toddler to try something new. I also feel that a child will eat when they're hungry enough. Good luck though.

Aren't those sprinkles sugar based? Between the sugar and the fact that they are loaded with colours (obviously) I personally would hate that idea. I want my kid to eat, not become a sugar fuelled little maniac

My thoughts exactly. Part of the problem today.
