This is a pretty interesting topic.

There are only two online payment systems that I have used, and I am not exactly sure that I would recommend either to anyone. I use them only because we have companies and it requires we make different options available to our customers/clients.

Paypal is probably the biggest, but I would never leave a balance of cash sitting there.

The other is epassporte, but I have a feeling that they are headed for trouble due to the fact that they allow gambling sites to do transactions.

I have not heard of virtual credit cards, but I have seen prepaid cards. They operate in the same way and at the same places as their big brothers, but since the balance is limited, you cannot get ripped off a large amount.

The virtual cards are new entrants on cyber arena. The websites like Truecards.com have facility to issue you a virtual visa card with amout you pay them through sources like paypal etc. You can use that card to shop online only as the normal way you do with your normal credit card. Although it has very less risk of being hacked and you have very little to loose.
