| She's in grade 9, which is considered junior high here. She IS a good kid, and we're talking about how she can see her friends and still have the strength to say "NO" when the rest of them are drinking. I don't want to trap her in the house for the rest of her life, but I want her to understand the consequences of bad choices, especially for young girls. Drinking with teenage boys and getting drunk and losing inhibitions is a Very Bad Idea, and no matter how much you think you can trust the boys...often, when they're tipsy, too, you can't trust them to keep their hands off. *sigh* |

| As a high school senior, I have never felt ANY peer pressure to drink alcohol. Most of my friends partake in drinking on weekends, and yes, I go to some parties with them, but I do not drink. I would just make sure that your daughter has high self-esteem and confidence in herself. If she feels confident in who she is, without drinking, she won't feel the need to make herself appear "better" for them. If she is strong on the inside, she can be strong on the outside and say "No". I'm glad that you are taking an active stance on parenting. So many parents disregard drinking alcohol as something that their children would never take part in. |
