I always feel a bit funny about giving flowers as gifts, knowing that they will be dead soon and the person will have nothing to show or remember. So I often give a flowering potted plant instead, knowing it will last longer.

Have you ever done this?

How about giving a nice vase as a gift, then your friend will think of you whenever anyone else gives him/her flowers?

I buy flowers once in a while, but since I am no longer married, less need. A nice vase is cool if the person ever gets flowers, however, I have a bunch that are never used because no one sends me flowers.
