| I would like to know what is the most common security software used here. I don't need any for my linux OS, but for windows security is a must. All I use is a firewall router and the firewall built into Vista, since most attacks are blocked through the router pretty well. For antivirus I use NOD32, its lightweight and scans in a very short period of time. Also it finds eveything and blocks trojans from loading and spyware from downloading/installing. The spyware software I use is Ad-aware Pro, which is does a great job in cleaning unwanted software that installs itself. So far I have never had to reformat my HDD due to trojans and spyware so I feel this software does what it should do. |

| I've got a hardware firewall built into my router though I also run Norton Internet Security and Anti Virus. Some dislike Norton due to its resource-hungry nature, though I've never found it to be a problem. Additionally, security updates are always very quick and I've never had a virus since I started using it some years ago so I doubt I'll change anytime soon. AVG is great if you can't afford a subscription service - I've installed it on a few PC's before now and again they have always been virus-free touchwood. |
