Default Vista sucks!!

I purchased a vista home premium based laptop recently and now i feel cheated for the money I paid for this rickety OS. It causes so much crashes, IE7 generates crash reports so often, drivers are not available for legacy devices, plus the hardware cost for running it is too high. Microsoft has been cheating us really big this time.

You are not the only one suffering by using vista. Its ultimate edition is not at all stable. My friend got that edition on his new rig powered by core2duo procesor and 4 GB ram with nvidia 7800gt based graphics card. And it still isnt good for running the OS. What else now does vista requires? A Supercomputer!!

People said the same thing about Win 95, 98, XP . . . . give them a chance to work out the bugs and for other programs to update to be compatible.

I have to say that I too hate vista. I have, luckily enough, a copy of XP that I can wack onto my laptop. The bugs are terrible, the user experience is a joke and I hate that they hide so much, treating the user like an idiot. Fine, I realise that not everyone is good with PCs, but I have a bachelors in computer science and still am struggling to make this machine do what I want it to.

The wait and let them get it right approach would be fine if I had a CHOICE as to whether or not to take this or XP. But unfortunately, it came preinstalled with no choice to downgrade.

No other company would get away with releasing software that isn't yet ready to use.

I have yet to hear of a computer manufacturer that would not give you the option of installing XP instead. If you picked one that doesn't, shame on you.

I have a question for you though . . . do you think you would have your bachelors in computer science if you had been home schooled?

Yes, I do. I do not see any reason why home schooling would have stopped me going to university. Are you actually aware of the number of home schooled children who score well above the average on college entry tests? You have a terrible opinion of home school which you seem to want to hang on to, and I am sorry if that is because you knew someone who home schooled and screwed up. But it's not all that way.

Even I have a young friend through church who is home schooled and in truth it is only because her parents are too lazy to get her to school. They teach her nothing and as a result she is failing because she is unable to learn alone. Most home school families are not this way.

Regarding my choosing a company that had no option for the OS of my choice-I simply do not have the money. I am not a fool. We are not all made of money. As a computer scientist I am MORE than qualified to wipe this junk and install XP when time allows-so why should I pay someone $200 more for the privalidge of having them do it for me? That would be the foolish thing to do, and also the lazy thing.

My brother has a Windows Vista laptop. I haven't heard any complaints from him so far. I borrow his laptop sometimes and I also don't have any complaints. I actually like it especially the graphics.
