Default Vista Vs. Linux

I recently purchased Vista Ultimate which was a lot of money. The only real reason I bought it was for DX10 and to use the full potential of my DX10 video card. I really dont see much chang from xp. I should of waited till the end of this year or when the next service pack comes out to purchase vista, since not a lot of software and drivers are compatible with it.

I have been using linux, ubuntu mostly and so far I have been more pleased with it than vista. If you have ever seen beryl for linux it is much more innovative that Vista's gui. You can set up as many desktops as you can think of, and make them all a 3d cube where you select which desktop you want to view. The downside is not much works on linux except for the open source software. Linux is great for using as a server or if you dont feel like paying a lot for photoshop you can use Gimp the free linux version.

I mainly use Vista for games and programming in C++ and C#. I use Linux for a personal web server, and for the free applications. In the end I find myself more on Linux than Vista.

Vista has gone down like the proverbial lead balloon, particularly in many corporate environments. The main reason? Compatibility. A Microsoft Reseller I'm aware of hasn't "upgraded" to Vista yet because there are no drivers for their office communication equipment - Pretty useless, really.

I'm a fan of Linux though have usually stuck to Fedora. I really only use Linux for work given that a lot of application support is still a little thin on the ground. At home though, it's XP all the way, and I don't see myself upgrading to Vista anytime soon unless there are some dramatic changes somewhere down the line.

Vista is really a very nice and expensive joke. With few cosmetic changes and a lot of flaws its just windows XP in guise. I myself would still prefer windows xp to vista. Dell recently started shipping again its laptops with xp again due to poor feedback it received for vista.
