Default Teens and Drinking

This came up for us a couple of weeks ago: my daughter and some friends were drinking and if I catch the idiot who bought them booze, I'll do some serious damage, let me tell you. My daughter is 14 and she was the second OLDEST one in the group of about 6 or 7 kids. She's seriously grounded and we've been having some serious talks, you can believe. ARG.

Wow thats pretty dangerous, I have taken sips of alcohol out of my mothers cup before but never anything as serious as that. Hope you find the jerk.

You wonder what goes through the mind of someone buying alcohol for a group of kids that young. Too bad the cops didn't catch him.

Anyone who gives alcohol or any illegal substance to children should be locked up. Not only can you permanently harm them but you can also ruin their lives.

I bet if you talk to your local hospital you can find a victim of drunk driving they can visit. Or better yet, go to a county hospital that has a rehab center for alcoholism. That should scare the hell out of them.

There was this email passing around the internet of this woman who was seriously messed up from a drunk driver, she lost her fingers, eye lids everything. THAT would scare them.

The thing is: she knows better! She admits it was a stupid choice to make, but I don't think she realizes how much it has compromised my trust in her and her ability to say "no" in the face of peer pressure. Then you wonder what else she'd give in to. You keep hoping it'll get easier, but *sigh*.

We always "knew better," right? The fear of God is what it takes sometimes. I mean, that is the only reason I haven't killed anyone yet.

Now she tells me most of her friends drink and she doesn't want to give them up because she likes who they are inside. I think we need to find a good counselor, and I think I know who to call. Prayers and good vibes gratefully accepted.

Finding a counselor would probably be a good idea, but it's going to be hard to get her away from her friends. One thing to remember is that a lot of good kids make bad choices. This doesn't make them bad kids. When your daughter gets to high school, you may find that a large percentage of kids there drink. Dealing with it at such a young age will hopefully get it out of her before then.
